Dingo participates in Wind Energy Condition Monitoring Workshop
Dingo recently participated in a three-day National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) conference in Broomfield, Colorado. NREL is the only national laboratory dedicated exclusively to improving and developing renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The NREL laboratory in Golden, CO also operates the National Wind Technology Center in Broomfield, CO.
The 2011 Wind Turbine Condition Monitoring Workshop was held over three days in September, 2011 and featured representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, Oklahoma Gas & Energy, and the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences at Durham University, UK, among many other industry experts.
The purpose of the workshop was to explore condition and structural health monitoring for wind turbine drivetrains, blades, and primary support structures. The object was to present the science behind each technology as well as the condition of commercial application in wind industry.
- Topics included such subject matter as:
- Why the industry needs condition monitoring;
- Wind power cost of energy, availability and reliability;
- Wind turbine availability, onshore and offshore;
- Future challenges to the wind industry;
- Preventive maintenance and condition monitoring techniques.
Bob Williams, Dingo Chief Business Officer, delivered a presentation that demonstrated how Dingo's condition monitoring programs had been successful in the mining industry, and how the same principles that guide condition and monitoring practices in the mining industry also have applications in the wind turbine market.
Dingo's condition monitoring programs are of great benefit to mining and renewable energy industries alike, who count on the health of their assets in order to improve availability and reduce costs.
Discussing the importance of the Wind Energy industry, Bob commented, "In the coming weeks, Dingo will be announcing a new dedicated focus on delivering condition monitoring software tools for Wind Energy OEMs, Service Providers and Owners/Operators. We believe Wind is an important global renewable energy source and condition monitoring systems play a critical role in ensuring uptime for Wind turbines."
